Group BTS focusing on hip-hop is dreaming to soar up with more matured image.
After its debut on 20, BTS released its first regular album ‘Dark & Wild’ and came back with more matured image, taking off their school uniform. They grew up a bit more not only in its image, but also in its music.
BTS who used to sing “I want to be your man. I want your love” (from ‘Boy In Luv’)” now sings, “Don’t mess around with me”. It seems like they became more bold and wild, and that is the concept of the new album. The album contains various genres of hip-hop songs: South, West, BoomBap, Trap, and so on. Those various tracks clearly show the color of BTS’s music.
The title song ‘Danger’ is a hybrid hip-hop song combining club-tune hip-hop groove and funk rock guitar sound, along with straight rap and powerful chorus. Also, their performances with perfect group dance, rough feeling of lyrics, and their visual points are hard to be missed.
They tried to have their own weapon by participating in writing and composing songs, and working on dance and singing even when they were on overseas tours.
Those efforts were worthwhile: musician Jinbo and MC Meta said on SNS regarding with BTS’s new album, “Their solid tone and confident flow were so impressive. We could feel their passion for the hip-hop.”
Members also met with American hip-hop masters Warren G and Coolio through Mnet reality program ‘American Hustle Life’. They boasted that the level of their self-written songs has increased. SUGA said, “I met Warren G in the US and he wanted to cover my song ‘Tomorrow’ after hearing it” and “I produced ‘Let Me Know’ which has different color compared to previous songs.”
They also included Cypher track to prove their identity and skills. RAP MONSTER said, “That can be our unique strategy. We did it from raps of rappers in overseas and it was hard to find in idol groups. We thought as we have three rappers, we could show our skills, passion, and honesty with the track.”
Fans’ reaction was good. They gained popularity not only from teens but also from fans in their 20s and 30s. After releasing the first song, fans kept saying through SNS and online communities, “They became more gorgeous”.
Within one year and two months since its debut, BTS has received good reputation with their first regular album, and their next step as hip-hop idol raises curiosity.
